Information sources

The links on the right hand side have all been referenced in order to construct the calculator. These reports provide useful background information for those wishing to explore the subject further. IPCC and UNFCCC describe the internationally agreed calculation to enable each country to produce their national Greenhouse Gas inventory, although there is still considerable discretion applied. For those interested in the accountancy issues the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Initiative (produced by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and World Business Council for Sustainable Development) and the BSI guidance are the most useful sources.

Updates

The science, and accountancy practice, for greenhouse gas assessment is developing rapidly and the calculator will be updated to reflect significant changes.

The CALM methodology is based on the most recent National Inventory Report (we update annually and apply the most recent data to any reports already compiled).  For those interested in the detail I suggest the first point of call is the Annex (parts 3.6 and 3.7 from pages 360 onwards) found on the link below.  Be warned  that there is a typing error  (as of 11 June 2008) in the most recently published excretion factors shown in the report on page 366/367
